What We Believe

On September 28, 2011, Church Statistician George Barna pointed out that many parents and church leaders wonder how to most effectively cultivate durable faith in the lives of today’s youth.

During a five-year project headed by Barna Group President David Kinnaman, his team explored the opportunities and challenges of faith development among teens and young adults within a rapidly shifting culture.

The findings of their research are included in a new book by Kinnaman titled: You Lost Me: Why Young Christians are Leaving Church and Rethinking Church.

The research project was comprised of eight national studies, including interviews with teenagers, young adults, parents, youth pastors, and senior pastors. The study of young adults focused on those who were regular churchgoers in the Christian church during their teen years and explored their reasons for the disconnect from church life after age 15.

Based on the study, no single reason dominated the break-up between church and youth.

However, two of the biggest challenges that our youth face today involve bullying and peer pressure which have always been a harsh reality of growing up, but the growth in technology has provided more platforms for these beasts to thrive.

As a result, God has inspired Founder Jeffery D. Henderson of The Hang-Out ATL and the strategic planning team that he put together to launch a church specifically designed for and focused on youth called The Hang-Out ATL.

It is imperative that today’s youth have a safe place to grow, learn, be empowered, and feel unconditional love and acceptance.  It is becoming more evident every day that due to the internet/technology, school and home are not that places of safe-haven, but The Hang-Out ATL will become an extension of the Christian faith-based community to be such an entity.

Based somewhat on a very similar model and outreach called “The Basement” in Alabama and “The Cave” in Maryland, The Hang-Out will become the lighthouse for pre-teens, adolescents, and young adults who are lost at sea and being tossed by waves of depression, self-hate, guilt, failure, drugs, and rejection.

The number of lives that will be turned around by this outreach and ministry will impact 1,000’s of lives in the near future.

The Hang-Out is where the torches are lit, and The Hang-Out is ready to light up the Greater Atlanta Region, Georgia, the nation, and globally.

Our church has a place for everyone from 0 to over 100 years old.
